Using Commercial Photography To Transform Your Brand Image And Step-Up Your Sales Performance

I’ll give just about anything a go, call me a Do it yourself fiend but I’ve adopted a “I can do anything” philosophy to most aspects of my life and roughly speaking this has proven to serve me really well.  I’ve saved thousands of pounds and days worth of time along with being rewarded with a rather smug feeling of self worth too.

Whilst modernizing a semi derelict house a few years ago I decided to adopt this “give it a go” way of thinking and swiftly learnt how to do fundamental wiring, plumbing, decorating and even building.  There’s no doubt that I saved a small fortune by executing some of these basics myself but when it came down to certain more qualified jobs, I phoned a tradesman.  The reasons why are obvious.  Firstly it would take me years of training and work experience just to study their particular craft, then I would have to commit hundreds if not thousands of pounds in specialist tools and equipment, next it would take me days to do a job that’d take a competent tradesman just a few hours to complete and ultimately and most significant of all was quality of the final job, not only do I not want my house flooding from a clumsy bathroom refit but also it’s got to look stunning in order to eventually sell the house on and make a profit!

Well I can’t profess to being an expert in many areas but having spent the last 14 years earning a living as a photographer I do feel that these same principles apply when considering whether or not you should call in a professional to take on your creative work.

Photographers are so pricey to commission so why should you bother going broke when you could just arrange your product on a heavy-duty table, aquire a couple of desk lamps and get snapping with your new 600 megapixel compact camera?  Surely the funds conserved could go towards building that new website you’ve been promising yourself?  Well as you might probably reckon I disagree, I wouldn’t make a tremendous photographer if I can’t even legitimatize my own existence!

If you’re only selling a few old belongings on ebay then sure give it a go yourself.  No one perusing ebay is going to give a damn whether or not your old fridge freezer is properly lit, beautifully composed, in focus or washed in a dirty orange caste or not, right?  Well perhaps not but let’s suppose the next fridge freezer listed comes with a whole variety of dazzling photographs and worse is lower-priced than yours to purchase.  Which one are they going to decide upon?  I’m not recommending that you start hiring a professional photographer just to sell your old garbage on ebay but hopefully this illustrates a theory which is in effect the same in all walks of business; if your competitors website has high quality photographs but yours has crude ones and your prices are similar… you can guess the rest.  However this isn’t just about short term sales it’s about your brand image, would you opt to be remembered as amateurish and plain or slick, professional and exclusive?

Sure there are all the normal reasons why you should employ a professional photographer, yeah we’ve undertaken years of training or work experience, yup our kit bags are stuffed full with painfully expensive gear, oh and lets not overlook our fantastic eye for a funky composition etc etc although the real reason I think you should at least contemplate calling in a professional is that in todays over-crowded market place it’s become even more relevant than ever to stand out from the crowd, broadcast you individuality and exude brand quality.
